A suburban backyard in Mosgiel just outside Dunedin, has become home to one of the most distinctive Dolby Atmos music studios in the region—built inside two shipping containers and fitted with professional-grade JBL Cinema loudspeakers.
The project, spearheaded by local indie artist and producer Breesy, transforms a modest space into a creative hub for immersive audio production. With Dolby Atmos and a full 7.1.4 speaker configuration, the studio now delivers spatial audio with precision and depth.

Known for his acoustic folk and light rock writing, Breesy has been playing music since age 10 and performing live since his teens. Now, after years of dreaming and planning, he’s finally realised his vision for a dedicated production space, aptly named Breesy’s Studio.
Once the containers were installed, Breesy reached out to Vision, a Dunedin-based AV integration firm, for guidance on building out the technical infrastructure. Gustav Teitge, an experienced project manager with a background in professional AV and Dolby Atmos installations, led the technical design and specification process.
“I didn’t really have the technical knowledge to pick out the right gear for what I wanted to achieve,” says Breesy. “I went to them for advice and was really happy to learn they could handle the supply, install and setup as well.”
“The JBL speakers are awesome. The advice and experience I received made a huge difference.”

To meet Dolby Atmos Home Entertainment studio certification standards, the system required a minimum 7.1.4 speaker setup. Teitge specified a carefully selected mix of JBL Professional loudspeakers supplied by distributors JPRO, to meet both performance and budget requirements while ensuring the highest quality monitoring experience in the compact studio.
System Features:
- Left and Right mains: JBL C211 Two-Way ScreenArray® Cinema Loudspeakers — Slimline, cinema-grade speakers featuring the same high-frequency transducer technology found in JBL’s renowned 7 Series reference monitors.
- Centre channel: JBL 308P MkII 8″ powered studio monitor — A staple in professional studios, the patented waveguide provides a wide sweet spot offering stunning detail and precise imaging
- Surround and height channels: JBL 8320 Cinema Surround Speakers — Designed for immersive formats, these compact enclosures provide high output, extended bass and low visual impact. Originally developed for cinema, they’ve proven themselves equally at home in premium home studios and corporate environments.

“The AKG C414XL is spectacular – so versatile I use it on everything from vocals to instruments.”
Also recommended and supplied was the AKG C414 XLII condenser microphone—now one of Breesy’s most-used tools in the studio.
“The JBL speakers are awesome. The smooth response and pinpoint imaging of the high frequency reproduction across the immersive mix space is incredible,” Breesy says. “But the biggest surprise was the AKG C414XL. It’s spectacular – so versatile I use it on everything from vocals to instruments.”
Local-based support and professional-grade installation made the difference, allowing Breesy to focus on what matters most: creativity.
“The biggest challenge was staying within my budget,” he admits. “But I ended up with more than I imagined. The advice and experience I received made a huge difference—I can concentrate on music now, not the tech setup.”
The result is a world-class, Atmos-enabled production studio in a truly unique setting—testament to the impact of well-chosen pro audio gear, thoughtful design and a clear creative vision.
