JBL Synthesis strengthens its custom installation high-end home theatre portfolio with four new in-wall speakers, four in-room models, two AV preamps, an AVR and a subwoofer – equipping integrators and designers with greater flexibility, scalability and system-wide performance.

HARMAN Luxury Audio Group has unveiled a major expansion of its immersive audio home cinema lineup, introducing nine new JBL Synthesis Custom Loudspeakers (SCL) alongside three next-generation processing and amplification components.

Rather than focusing on a single flagship product, this launch is about building a bigger, more cohesive ecosystem. As residential cinemas and luxury home installations grow more complex, scalability and system-wide integration are becoming just as important as outright performance.

The loudspeakers, subwoofers, processing and amplification have been developed to ensure consistent voicing, predictable behaviour and scalable performance. For integrators dealing with ever-larger immersive installations, that kind of cohesion is arguably more valuable than any single spec-sheet headline.

Front and centre (no pun!) is a significant expansion of the JBL Synthesis Custom Loudspeaker (SCL) range. All the new models are timbre-matched and designed to work seamlessly within a complete JBL Synthesis system, so whether you’re building a dedicated cinema or a multi-purpose luxury living space, everything is engineered to speak the same sonic language.

ARCHITECTURAL IN-WALL FLAGSHIPS

Leading the in-wall lineup are four new designs aimed squarely at serious cinema rooms:

  • SCL-2XL – The powerhouse of the range, featuring four 8-inch woofers and a high-frequency compression driver. It’s built for high-output LCR and surround duties in large and extra-large rooms, especially behind acoustically transparent projection screens.
  • SCL-4XL – A dual 8-inch configuration that delivers serious scale while offering slightly more flexibility in system design.
  • SCL-6XL – With four 6.5-inch woofers, this model balances performance with installer-friendly integration.
  • SCL-7XL – Featuring an offset HDI horn that precisely directs sound toward the listening area, making it ideal for surround or centre-channel applications where controlled directivity is key.
IN-ROOM AND ON-WALL OPTIONS

Not every premium space allows for cutting into walls, so JBL Synthesis has also expanded its in-room and on-wall offerings.

  • SCL-10XL – Positioned as a flagship in-room or built-in loudspeaker, it uses dual 10-inch woofers to deliver reference-level output behind projection screens or inside custom cabinetry.
  • SCL-10 – A more compact alternative with dual 6.5-inch drivers, designed for medium to large rooms.
  • SCL-9XL – A high-output on-wall model with four 5.25-inch woofers, ideal for immersive systems built around large flat-panel displays.
  • SCL-9 – A slimmer, more design-conscious option that prioritises flexibility without sacrificing performance.

Rounding out the speaker lineup is the SSW-5, a new 12-inch, 1,000-watt powered subwoofer designed to deliver deep, controlled low-frequency performance for mixed architectural and in-room systems.

NEW PROCESSING AND AMPLIFICATION PLATFORMS

Complementing the loudspeaker expansion, JBL Synthesis unveiled three new electronics platforms created to power and manage today’s immersive systems.

  • SDP-70 Immersive AV Processor – The flagship processor, offering 24 channels of processing, expanded flexibility, network-ready architecture, and support for Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (ART).
  • SDP-60 – A 16-channel alternative featuring balanced outputs, Matrix Channel Assignment, and the same Dirac Live ART optimisation tools.
  • SDR-40 Immersive AV Receiver – An all-in-one solution combining 16-channel processing with nine channels of Class G amplification, aimed at delivering high output and efficiency in a more streamlined chassis.

All three platforms support Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, IMAX Enhanced, and AURO-3D, and have been developed to integrate seamlessly with the expanded SCL loudspeaker family.

Jim Garrett, Senior Director for Product Strategy and Planning at HARMAN Luxury Audio said “With this new generation of JBL Synthesis loudspeakers and electronics, we’re delivering the most complete and flexible immersive audio ecosystem we’ve ever offered. From architectural in-wall solutions to in-room loudspeakers and advanced processing platforms, every product is designed to work together as part of a cohesive system. This expansion gives integrators and designers the tools they need to create reference-level cinema experiences.”
