HARMAN Professional Solutions and Yealink have announced the integration of the Yealink Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR) system and AMX control systems, allowing convenient connection and easy control for meeting room users.

The integration with AMX devices including central controllers, video switchers and HydraPort connectivity solutions, allows meeting attendees to enjoy a simple switch between table inputs to determine which laptop will be shared in the Teams meetings. In addition, the integration of AMX and Yealink allows users to not only control the camera on the Yealink MTouch II but additional peripherals such as lighting control and room temperature.

“The partnership between Yealink and AMX brings users a simpler and more friendly meeting experience,” said Alvin Liao, Vice President of Product at Yealink. “The integration enables meeting participants to focus on engaging with each other, not adjusting the devices.”

“Solving for the complexities of room control is a shared goal of AMX and Yealink, so integrating our respective technologies make for the perfect collaboration to give users an easier way to interface in the meeting room environment,” said Jamie Trader, vice president, video and control, HARMAN Professional Solutions. “We are excited by the opportunity to continue bringing together AMX control systems and Yealink’s user-friendly Teams Rooms devices for a new level of capability to a Teams Rooms solution without adding unnecessary complexity,”

In Concert Productions uses RF Venue’s DISTRO4 antenna distribution system, 4 ZONE active antenna combiner and Diversity Fin Antennas on multiple television program productions, providing rock solid reliability for 30-40 channels of voice wireless, 8-24 channels of IEM as well as IFB requirements.

In Concert Productions (ICP) is a production leader in the Atlanta, Georgia and Southeastern US markets. Providing solutions in live events, corporate and broadcast audio services for a wide variety of television program productions, including Family Feud, Titan Games, Judge Steve Harvey and Dancing With Myself, as well as cutting-edge televised sports like Fan Controlled Football.

Key to ICP’s arsenal of tools are reliable wireless audio essentials from RF Venue. Thanks to ICP’s use of these products, the shows have never experienced a wireless audio dropout, putting producers’ minds at ease and making filming and editing a breeze.

The popular game show Family Feud, filmed at the Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, GA, uses four RF Venue Diversity Fin Antennas, covering all four sides of the studio stage. The four antennas, picking up multiple channels of Shure Axient wireless microphones, are routed to an RF Venue DISTRO4 Antenna Distribution System.

“Rock-solid and cost-effective,” says Jay Rabbitt, ICP President. “These are two things that daytime television production demands, and RF Venue always delivers.”

ICP recently wrapped 20 episodes of the 2022 season of Judge Steve Harvey, featuring the titular actor, writer and impresario. Dropout-free wireless audio is assured by the use of an RF Venue DISTRO4 Antenna Distribution System receiving signal from four RF Venue Diversity Fin antennas.

“The action can be pretty fast paced, and participants move around the set, so the wireless signals have to be consistently strong,” says Rabbitt. “RF Venue gear never misses a beat.”

On NBC’s new primetime hit Dancing With Myself, contestants occupy stacked metal boxes as they perform, a situation that can wreak havoc with multiple channels of wireless audio. Over 12 channels of mics used by the contestants and audience interviews are totally protected, thanks to the use of RF Venue 4 ZONE antenna combiners and four Diversity Fin antennas used to cover the set and the outdoor judges’ tables.

“I can have all of the wireless channels coming to me for a combined input and output for the show’s audio,” says Rabbitt. “And as a bonus, it does that at a fraction of the cost of anyone else’s equipment.”

“Rock-solid and cost-effective, these are two things that daytime television production demands, and RF Venue always delivers”

Another show testing the limits of wireless sound was BET’s 2021 Next Chance Girl Group which put aspiring vocalists together in a 14,000-square-foot house on 18 acres. On site, four 4 ZONE antenna combiners were connected to a fifth 4 ZONE unit collecting audio from throughout the house and grounds.

“The system was on 24/7, constantly covering the house and grounds,” says Rabbitt. “Never a dropout, never a missed mark.”

“RF Venue is simply bulletproof when it comes to wireless, no matter where or how we use it.”

Fan Controlled Football is the latest way Americans can assuage their addiction to football during the NFL’s off season. And if they like miked-up players, they’ve come to the right place: All 18 members of both teams are wired for sound throughout the game. Four of RF Venue’s 4 ZONE units are used to combine the wireless microphone signals collected from across the 300 X 100-foot gridiron, and they do so flawlessly, says Rabbitt.

“We also had another six channels of handheld wireless mics and broadcast lavaliers, and this was all played across the street from a group of mobile-phone cell towers and broadcast television antennas. And you guessed it: not a single dropout during the entire three-month season. RF Venue is simply bulletproof when it comes to wireless, no matter where or how we use it.”

To enhance the visitor experience at the BMW showroom in the iconic Nürburgring motorsports complex recently installed a suite of powerful HARMAN Professional audio visual solutions.

The Opportunity

BMW and HARMAN have enjoyed a close working relationship for almost 30 years. Harman Kardon speakers deliver immersive and high-fidelity audio on the road to millions of BMW sedan and SUV owners, making HARMAN’s technology as much a part of the BMW experience as the finely-tuned engines and German craftsmanship. For its 480-square meter showroom at the legendary Nürburgring Formula 1 motorsports complex, BMW wanted a versatile and easy-to-use audio-visual system with wireless control to ensure an unforgettable experience for every visitor. To meet these requirements, BMW and C-Line deployed a comprehensive selection of AMX, JBL Professional and Crown solutions.

“We wanted to deliver a perfect sound and video system, but we had to meet a really tight deadline,” said Thomas Langenegger, Project Manager, BMW M. “Complicating matters, we had to use the venue for different exhibits, each with their own audio-visual needs.”

BMW’s primary goal for the showroom’s system was to deliver audio and video content throughout the facility with ease and efficiency. AMX SVSI 2300 Series AVoIP encoders and decoders provide the needed processing power and user-friendliness, allowing staff to display signage, presentations, and race day video feeds at the touch of a button. AMX Modero touch panels allow users to control the displays on any of the nine video walls throughout the space and select live TV, Nürburgring TV or auxiliary inputs for presenters to showcase their own content. AMX Touch Panel Control apps give users the same level of control from wireless tablets and smartphones.

“Since the beginning of the project, we knew that we would install a reliable and rock-solid control system combined with SVSI networked AV from AMX,” said Christian Kraus, Account Manager, C-Line Mediensysteme. “AMX is our manufacturer of choice and we have done many successful installations over the years using their solutions.”

“We wanted to deliver a perfect sound and video system… using the venue for different exhibits, each with their own audio-visual needs.”

The Solution

To accommodate the showroom’s limited size, C-Line selected JBL AC28/26 two-way loudspeakers and ASB6115 subwoofers for wide coverage and detailed sound while taking up minimal space. Because the showroom also has the ability to be divided into three separate audio zones divided by acoustic curtains, C-Line deployed JBL AWC82 and Control 67 P/T loudspeakers to provide distinct, independent audio in each area when needed. Crown CDi 4|600 and CDi 2|300 networked amplifiers, featuring easy monitoring and extensive control options, allow staff to program and adjust extremely low-latency audio throughout the facility. Langenegger reported overwhelmingly positive responses to the showroom’s audio and video components from visitors thus far, recognizing HARMAN and C-Line for their expertise and collaboration.

“HARMAN and BMW have a long partnership because their equipment works and their products are excellent. It met, if not exceeded, our requirements.”

System Features
The Impact

“BMW is a hugely design-oriented company, so we wanted speakers that would be both sleek and unobtrusive,” added Langenegger. “The JBL speakers fit the bill, and the whole system works perfectly. HARMAN and BMW have a long partnership because their equipment works and their products are excellent. We didn’t have to think too hard about partnering with HARMAN, and in the end, we chose the best system for our needs. It met, if not exceeded, our requirements.”

Performance is part of a complete software ecosystem. It integrates with other JBL software, including JBL Line Array Calculator III acoustic prediction software and the JBL Array Link mobile app.

SYSTEM DESIGN

Defining an entire system is a quick and straightforward process of dragging and dropping speakers into the main workspace and arranging them as you see them in the venue. This process automatically creates system groups and links relevant parameters. Highly flexible groups for subwoofer arrays can be configured as rows or columns, and factory-defined presets can be recalled with a click. Omnidirectional or cardioid arrays are supported, and factory optimized settings are recalled simply by reversing the orientation of the subwoofer in the software.

DEPLOY AND CONNECT

Leveraging an all-new communications protocol built by Harman for the modern Audio industry, HControl simplifies and streamlines device control by using standard networking infrastructure and can operate over off-the-shelf data switches and WiFi Routers. Matching real-world hardware with its software counterpart within Performance is easy using simple HControl IDs that can be assigned using the built-in NetSetter device management tool.

It can be tricky to figure out which JBL All-In-One system best meets your needs, so lets take a look at the key differences between each JBL model and which one you should consider for your next upgrade.

Here is a guide to JBL’s All-In-One Portable PA family:

JBL All In One Systems are now the most affordable, best sounding and performing portable PA speakers worth investing in. Built for NZ Schools teambuilding sport days sport clubs and more.

JBL EON ONE Compact

EON ONE Compact, as the name suggests, is the smallest speaker of the bunch – but do not let that fool you, it is still packed-full of tech, has an extremely intelligently designed form-factor, and has enough power to easily broadcast your voice or music to a good-sized crowd.

Featuring a single 8” driver for low-frequencies, 1” tweeter for high-frequencies, and enough power to emit 112dB max output level, the Compact packs a punch that belies its 8kg weight.

Connectivity

Connectivity-wise, the EON ONE Compact has an abundance of useful I/O including 2 Mic/Line inputs (with 48v Phantom Power available), a HI-Z/line ¼” jack input, and a stereo playback source via Bluetooth 5.0 streaming (which supports streaming to multiple devices) or 1/8” stereo jack input. There’s also an 1/8” headphone output for local headphone monitoring as well as a line output pass-through jack for linking multiple units as part of a larger system.

Remote Controllable Digital Mixer

EON ONE Compact features an on-board digital mixer with powerful DSP and Lexicon Reverb/Chorus/Delay effects that can be controlled on the unit’s interface or controlled remotely using a dedicated iOS or Android app. If you’re an artist using iOS and Android devices for lyrics and sheet music, within one swipe you can be adjusting the levels of your instruments or changing your Reverb settings! Using the EON ONE Compact for presentations and teaching? Simply adjust microphone and presentation volume using the app. You can even store your entire mix settings and instantly recall them as you move from venue to venue.

EON ONE Compact Hot Swappable Replacement Battery
Rechargeable Battery

The key attribute that makes EON ONE Compact so portable is its built-in rechargeable battery. With up to 12-hours of battery life and a fast tool-less hot-swap battery feature, EON ONE Compact can be positioned easily and perform in anywhere. Fast recharge time takes a mere 2 and 1/2 hours or it can be used whilst connected to mains power. Top tip is to purchase an external charger and spare battery for battery swaps when you’re in the moment and don’t want the jamming to stop!

EON ONE Compact is well suited to singer-songwriters and buskers playing to small audiences/gatherings, but it is also just as at home when used for recreational activities such as outdoor gyms, yoga and education where portability and power-to-weight is crucial. When you’re done, it easily fits on a car seat, back-pack or bus for the journey home.

Multipurpose Positioning

Whilst it appears as a traditional front-of-house enclosure, EON ONE Compact can be positioned on the floor using its wedge shape, on a tabletop, or on a tripod for best coverage at the venue. EON ONE Compact cleverly detects its configuration and changes the speaker tuning to match to ensure you’re always getting renowned JBL sound quality in any orientation.

Accessories

JBL have developed a range of useful accessories to make your setup and performance slicker than ever. This includes the EON ONE Compact USB Power Cable that utilises the USB charging ports to power guitar pedals or AKG wireless receivers for true, mobile, battery-powered performances (with EON ONE Compact and EON ONE MK2) with minimal cabling and setup time. Optional external charger and spare batteries are available for battery swaps on-the-go for your non-stop performance. Protect your EON ONE Compact during transport with a variety of cover options from a stylish tote bag, a standard slip cover, to a water resistant padded backpack.

Carry bags and Cover accessories for JBL EON ONE Compact

JBL EON ONE MK2

EON ONE MK2 is the newest portable battery powered column array, featuring the best of the previous EON ONE models, added with the latest in digital mixing, improved portability, longer battery power and audio processing technology to create the most flexible, portable and powerful option in the EON ONE range to date.

Connectivity

Combining a 5-channel digital mixer with 3 Mic/Line inputs (2 with optional 48v phantom power), Bluetooth 5.0 streaming, audio passthrough to link additional speakers and USB charging connectivity alongside JBL’s proven column PA technology. EON ONE MK2 gives you more digital mixing capabilities with a full colour LCD screen for easy navigation.

Line Array Technology

If you’re unfamiliar with column PAs, they may appear odd-looking at first! The narrow column containing 8×2” drivers is positioned on top of the 10” subwoofer unit which houses the power amplifier, PSU and digital mixer.

Leveraging line-array technology developed for high-end, festival-level PA systems means the audience can hear a clear and focussed sound anywhere in front or to the sides of the PA. Column array speakers carry sound farther and clearer than conventional point source or horn speakers, without the sound having to be too loud or annoying in the front.

Whilst it might appear to be cumbersome having a large column to transport, JBL have split the column into 3 sections (one of which is the rechargeable battery) that can be packed down and housed in the rear of the bass unit for 1-handed transport in and out of the venue!

Remote Controllable Digital Mixer

EON ONE MK2 can be remote controlled using an iOS or Android device via the JBL Pro Connect App – allowing the show to be mixed anywhere in the venue by the engineer, AV Tech or musician in the band. The digital mixer and app features an even more impressive selection of processing than the EON ONE Compact with the inclusion of Automatic Ducking, Automatic Feedback Suppression (AFS), Sub Harmonic Synthesis, as well as Delay effects developed in conjunction with Soundcraft, dbx, and Lexicon.

Rechargeable Battery

EON ONE MK2 can be used on mains or battery power and features a clever removable Battery design where the lowest spacer on the array contains the Battery. Providing up to 6 hours of battery life during normal use, the battery can be easily removed and swapped out during an interval or removed from the array and recharged separately with an optional charging accessory.

Combined with more output than its predecessor (119dB on battery and 123dB on mains), EON ONE MK2 is an amazing option for solo musicians or ensembles looking for a powerful and portable PA for their live shows or even corporate, education, events and rental companies looking for a versatile speaker during their functions. The battery operation alone presents many advantages to anyone running anything outdoors including buskers and wedding celebrants, school sports days and team building activities.

Not having to find power will also aid every kind of corporate AV application when getting in and out fast is a must.

JBL PRX ONE

At the top the JBL All-In-One Portable range is the JBL PRX One All-In-One Powered Column PA System. PRX One gives you the power to amplify your voice, instruments, or music without sacrificing portability – with this system, you no longer need to compromise between sound quality and size when it comes to performing live or travelling on the road.

Weighing in at just 25.7kg, the PRX One uses a whole host of awesome components to get the best performance possible – it’s built to last too, with rugged enclosures and an attractive yet discreet form factor while looking professional and expensive, which is perfect for corporate use.

Under the Hood

PRX One is a high-quality powered column PA, featuring a 2000w Class-D amplifier, 12×2.5” HF drivers and a single 12” subwoofer. It features a wide and consistent coverage pattern of 130°. These elements combine to create the highest-powered offering from the new portable PA family at 130dB, it is the perfect choice for larger bands, corporate or outdoor venues and rental companies needing ultimate power with maximum portability.

Wall Mount Bracket

Its versatility of use is made greater with the optional install wall bracket and truss adaptor. This means that unlike other portable column arrays, you can position the column array away from the sub enclosure and wall or truss mount them with the multi-angle bracket.

Considering that the whole package includes inputs, processing, app control, subs, and mid- highs, this puts the PRX ONE in contention for installation in everything from small entertainment venues to large meeting rooms and every application in between.

Connectivity

PRX ONE features impressive mixer connectivity with 4 Mic/Line inputs (2 with optional 48v phantom power), 2 dedicated HI-Z/Line Inputs, a stereo 1/8” input for playback, Bluetooth 5.0 audio streaming connectivity, as well as an XLR output pass through for linking other speakers – plenty of inputs and outputs for a group of musicians, small band, or multiple presenters at a conference event.

Digital Mixer and Signal Processing

The real power of the PRX ONE comes when you start to delve into the processing available on its internal digital mixer. Carrying on where the EON ONE MK2 left off, the PRX ONE features the same EQ, Automatic Ducking, Automatic Feedback Suppression (AFS), Sub Harmonic Synthesis found in the MK2 – but with the addition of dbx Compression on every channel and extensive output EQ on the speaker array. These are features that you would find on a touring-level digital mixing console, but they are built directly into the subwoofer of PRX ONE!

The full colour LCD screen provides easy navigation and editing of all onboard processing, the PRX ONE can be remote controlled using the universal JBL Pro Connect app for iOS and Android devices. The same device running the JBL Pro Connect App can control a number of PRX ONE’s and EON ONE MK2’s for a larger system or multiple-zone setup.

Mixing Power

Each model in the Portable PA Family features a Triple Tier DSP Control system that tailors all the app GUI and DSP power of the built-in digital mixer to match your experience and knowledge level from beginner views with basic control to advanced views where you get access to the whole suite of premium DSP effects.

WHICH JBL PA IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

If you’re in the market for a new portable PA, each of the JBL All-In-One systems will give you access to premium JBL sound and build quality alongside exceptional built-in digital signal processing and mixing capabilities. Some will prefer the enhanced features on certain models, while others will thrive with a stripped-back set-up that allows for a more basic plug-in-and-play approach. Which one best suits your application?

If your portable audio requirement needs to move from indoor to outdoor, room to hall, quad to field or pool to local pub, you will need a battery powered speaker that is ultra-portable and able to expel sound to a small to mid-sized audience. The EON ONE Compact is your best choice! It’s small enough to carry, yet powerful enough to make your voice or instrument heard. Being able to be powered all day using a built-in battery is a huge advantage when getting power is an issue. A solid speaker for gym class, corporate presentation, school sports day, musician, busker or celebrant – EON ONE COMPACT is the perfect fit!

If you need enough inputs for just a few microphones/instruments and need to cover a larger audience either indoors or out, with the convenience of battery power, then you may want to consider the EON ONE MK2. It has more I/O than the EON ONE Compact and more mixing power from the JBL Pro Connect App. With its line array tech, your audience can span wider and longer distances whilst still being heard. Even with more sound power and column speakers, they still pack down neatly into a single box to carry in one hand.

If you’re a small band, venue, or even rental or corporate company looking for something ultra-versatile and with enough power for medium to large audience sizes then the PRX ONE is your best choice as it features more output power, more DSP, and more connectivity than any other speaker in the All-In-One range – and it’s all remote controllable using the same cross-platform JBL Pro Connect App that controls both EON ONE MK2 and PRX ONE models.

VERSATILE JBL VTX A8 LINE ARRAY PROVIDES FLEXIBILITY AND EASE OF RIGGING OPTIONS

New 3,500-capacity Swansea Arena forms a central part of the Copr Bay regeneration programme in the Welsh city—the crowning jewel within a 1.1-acre coastal park.

The Swansea Arena is the latest of Ambassador Theatre Group’s (ATG) 58 operator run venues. It has been equipped with a versatile JBL VTX A8 line array system, installed by Glantre Engineering following a competitive tender issued by main contractors, Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd. Consultant on the project was Neill Woodger Acoustics and Theatre Design. Glantre’s contract as system integrator was a turnkey, covering rigging, drapes, full AV (including IPTV) and lighting, as well as the audio component—not only in the main event rooms but also the meeting rooms.

However, the recommendation for JBL’s compact line array had come from ATG’s Head of Technical Operations, Stuart Graham, who had been involved in the project from the outset four years ago. “We were able to have some influence on the design and I was able to shape the technical requirement.”

He noted the transition to JBL after another premium system had originally been specified.  “What had been proposed was a ‘safe’, medium sized system typically found in a theatre.

“But I wanted to challenge it [with this installation], I just didn’t want to keep going down the same route. This was our first UK arena and I thought we should reach and test new products. “There was a more ample budget available for the system’s design and implementation, and we wanted to focus on the scalability of the system and that it would work within every conceivable application. With that in mind, we opted for something tailored very much towards versatility and broader functionality.”

JBL VTX A8 Theatre choice for flexibility in multipurpose space, with a modular auditorium hosting a wide range of events from theatre productions, comedy, conferences and exhibition, some simultaneously

At the same time Stuart Graham was mindful that the venue had been designed not only as a multipurpose space, but with a modular auditorium, that would host a wide range of events—from theatre productions, comedy, conferences and exhibitions—some of them simultaneously. He envisaged it more than a place for different production companies to plug into, and worked closely alongside Neill Woodger to fulfil this.

It had been Woodger who had first directed Graham to Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre in order to demo the VTX A8, a venue where he and fellow consultant Sam Wise had overseen the successful JBL sound system installation in 2019.  He had wanted to hear the system not only with Swansea in mind but also other venues requiring a comprehensive system.

Stuart Graham’s verdict on first hearing the system was unequivocal. “I absolutely loved the sound of the A8 and B18 sub, and was blown away by the quality of the box. They had much more grunt and as for the usability of the system … it was easy to put up and take down.”

Graham subsequently heard the system again on the touring version of Carole King’s Beautiful, before auditioning it thoroughly at the HQ of British and Ireland distributors, Sound Technology Ltd., in Hertfordshire. But he said it was hearing the system again on Beautiful—the Carole King Musical “that signed, sealed and delivered the deal.”

Neill Woodger was happy to sign-off on the JBL solution given the technical proposals supplied and his previous experience with JBL at Congress Theatre.

“I didn’t want to keep using the same ‘safe’ medium sized line array specifications originally proposed and typically found in a theatre. I had heard the JBL VTX A8 and wanted to specify it.”

I absolutely loved the sound of the JBL VTX A8 and B18 sub and was blown away by the quality of the box. They had much more grunt and as for the usability of the system … it was easy to put up and take down.

In total 38 JBL VTX A8 have been rigged in their own flying frames at the Arena.

The set-up needed to be flexible as, thanks to a partition wall which closes the balcony, multiple events can be hosted simultaneously; for example, a banquet for 750 on the auditorium floor can be complemented by a seminar ongoing within the Circle, with no risk of interference or distraction. It was vital therefore that the sound system needed to be quicky reconfigurable and effective across the board.

The standard ‘full arena’ set-up is therefore two hangs each comprising 12 x A8 and 6 x B18 subs in cardioid configuration forming a conventional pros arch system. An additional 6 x B18 subs are available for ground-stacking as required. Two delay hangs each comprise of 5 x VTX A8 and 1 x VTX B18, plus four further VTX A8 as front fills, and a VTX M20 stage monitor package.

Powering the system are 15 Crown 4x3500HD amplifiers, while routing and processing is via BSS Soundweb BLU-806 and BLU-100.

The room can then be configured into conference mode, when the front rake goes in and the box angles change and reduce to eight a side; extra enclosures are then added to the delay arrays which are lowered and angled up slightly when the acoustic partition drops to divide the hall.

Matt Watt, Head of Sound Technology’s Application Team worked with ATG and Glantre on the design proposal and acoustic modelling.

“We modelled several alternative solutions before settling on the flexible A8 design.” commented Matt. “We were limited by the curtain as to where the speakers could be positioned, and the system still needed to work as delay for front of house and as the independent conference system. A8’s ease of rigging makes the reconfiguration of these areas possible as it’s so quick and easy!”

Glantre set up and optimised the entire system using JBL LAC (Line Array Calculator) and Performance Manager software, with BSS and amp config, working closely with Matt and Danny at Sound Technology’s Applications team, who were responsible for final commissioning. Glantre’s project manager and senior engineer, Tim Davies, explained, “There are a number of operating modes, both standing and seating and set up various presets as a base, with three or four different configurations.

“Essentially it’s a converged network and runs on the IT hardware, apart from the lighting.”

JBL VTX A8 line array for Swansea and now the consultants choice for medium format sound systems
This was our first UK arena and I thought we should reach and test new products. What had been proposed was a ‘safe’, medium sized system typically found in a theatre. When I heard the medium format JBL VTX A8 line array again on Beautiful—the Carole King Musical I knew this was the system to use – I was blown away by the quality of the box.

“A8’s ease of rigging makes the reconfiguration of these listening areas possible as it’s so quick and easy!”

In addition, Glantre dipped further into the Harman portfolio, specifying AMX video switchers to manage conference events and video distribution for 4K capability projection, as well as touch screen control in other areas, including the VIP lounge.

Keith Powles Technical and Building Manager of Swansea Arena, also added favourable comment. “Now that the arena is fully operational, I have had many different opportunities to use the system in various setups and configurations within the space

“The first thing that was apparent when using the system was just how flexible and intuitive it was for the user to set up, in a broad range of different scenarios—everything from conference, comedy all the way to large scale music events.

“Sonically the system has completely blown me away. The overall quality is outstanding and a particularly surprising element for me was just how well this system performs with spoken word style performances. The clarity and precision of vocals through the system is by far one of the best I have ever used. The system alongside the venue itself seems to be a perfect combination.“

In conclusion, Stuart Graham has no doubts about the wisdom of his preference for the JBL rig, particularly noting the speed of speaker reconfiguration during fast moving event changeovers. “JBL has a rich history and I know this was the right time and place for us to make a shift over to the brand. Longer term, once the reputation of the system comes more into play, we want to be able to offer the system competitively to certain size productions who don’t need all the investment of bringing equipment in.”

2022 Sports Business Awards names Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena as Sports Facility of the Year.

Since its Oct. 2021 opening, Seattle’s 17,000-seat Climate Pledge Arena has set its sights on becoming the most progressive, responsible, and sustainable arena in the world, with a net-zero carbon status, no single-use plastic, water conservation, and zero waste as some of its initial ambitions.

Originally opened in 1962 as part of the Seattle World’s Fair, the arena, first known as the Seattle Center Coliseum, was renovated in 1995 as KeyArena and then completely rebuilt in 2020-2021 with a reported $1.15 billion in private investment.

As Idibri senior consultant David Battershell notes, the latest upgrade wasn’t just a simple renovation. The original arena’s roof, for starters, “is a historic landmark and couldn’t be torn down, so it had to be lifted off for work to begin. The rest of the building was then completely dismantled, the floor was lowered 20 feet, and the new arena was built up to where the original roof would eventually be replaced.”

Along with naming rights, where it opted for “Climate Pledge” to raise awareness of the venue’s unique sustainability initiatives rather than simply tout its own company brand, Amazon is featuring its contactless Amazon One and Just Walk Out payment systems to eliminate checkout and payment delays at stores and food concessions within the arena.

While architects Populous and general contractor Mortenson met client Oak View Group’s need to preserve the iconic roofline, new upgrades changed the undercarriage, adding dozens of vertical lapendary baffles.

A perforated metal panel on both sides of the upper deck lets fans maximize the noise in the bowl, providing home venue advantage for basketball or hockey games. Adjustable acoustic features include retractable 40-foot acoustic curtains, which help open up the bowl and make it louder during games while muting the echo during concerts.

The main arena sound system is based around JBL Professional VTX A series (VTX A12 and VTX A8 line arrays, with VTX S28 subs) all powered by Crown amplifiers. JBL Control Series and AE Series speakers are used throughout the public areas and are powered by a variety of Powersoft amplifiers.

Idibri’s Battershell credited Powersoft’s Mezzo, in particular, for use in the arena’s suites, behind the televisions. “We used them to provide an audio input for local TV audio, amplification for local speakers and IP audio connection to the bowl audio feeds,” he notes. “Powersoft heard our design requirements and delivered exactly what we needed.”

Dave Curry, vice-president of technology for Climate Pledge Arena, also credited the audio setup in the suites. “The feedback from guests has been very positive.”

Multiple campuses are outfitted with RF Venue antennas, combiners and distribution products to ensure consistent wireless microphone and IEM performance without dropout.

Vox Church is a multi-site, non-denominational congregation with eight campuses in the New England region of the USA. The church places a lot of emphasis on music performance and communication from the stage and requires robust, reliable wireless RF operation to ensure that the message is heard.

Situated in a region of the USA crowded with television broadcast stations and numerous event sites using wireless mic and in-ear monitor systems that contribute to a challenging RF environment, exceptional RF coordination and distribution is key in setting up a wireless system free of drop out.

The church live streams its services from a portable broadcast campus—where volunteers perform load-in and load-out every weekend

Robert Roy is the central production lead for Vox Church. “We have a very small paid staff for each campus, as far as production-wise. And so equipment-wise, we try to be as efficient as we can, so that we can make the job easier for each volunteer on a Sunday morning.”

One way the church speeds load-in and load-out is through its heavy reliance on wireless mics and in-ear monitors (IEMs). Using more wireless systems, for instance, reduces the time and effort involved in uncoiling and wrapping cables. It also reduces on-stage clutter—an important factor when shooting video.

In a recent effort to improve audio quality and reliability, the church’s technical leadership added technology to solidify signals for its wireless microphones and in-ear monitor systems across all of the campuses, using wireless antennas and signal combiners from RF Venue.

Geno Mulcahy, the lead audio engineer at Vox Church, says using wireless is a time-saver. “Well, that’s the big thing, being a load-in church. We’re moving in, moving out, so time is not our friend,” he says. “So, not to have to spend a half hour coordinating frequencies and doing stuff—that in itself is worth the investment in RF Venue. I have the confidence of just turning on the rack and going.”

Roy says there’s a very small learning curve for volunteers when it comes to wireless, and that RF Venue systems give them the benefit of not having to understand everything about wireless. They can just plug and play, a benefit of finding a single wireless solution that works together well regardless of the make and model of wireless mics or IEMs.

With RF Venue, there’s never a drop out
Experience Pays Off

Mulcahy previously partnered with RF Venue in a large-scale wireless RF project and has learnt how critical the antenna and its distribution is to a reliable wireless system.

“Antennas and distribution are the non-fun part of working with wireless, but they’re mission-critical to making any event happen flawlessly,” he says. “The RF Venue products do the one thing that absolutely has to happen with wireless, and that’s make sure there are no dropouts. If you lose audio during a service, especially during the streaming audio that’s going out to other campuses that depend on taking their music cues from us, it’s game over. It’s as bad as losing video.”

The church operates a combination of Shure ULX-D wireless microphones and Sennheiser IEM G4 in ear monitor systems. “RF Venue allows us to use any brand of wireless microphone and IEM system we want, all with solid reliability” Mulcahy adds.

“Antennas and distribution are the non-fun part of working with wireless, but they are mission-critical to making any event happen flawlessly.”

RF Venue works with any wireless microphone and IEM system
The Solution

Vox uses RF Venue’s Diversity Fin Antenna, a multi-purpose antenna for wireless microphones that’s less susceptible to drop outs, due to a patented cross-polarized design. It provides a diversity solution in a single package by combining one log-periodic dipole array (LPDA) and one dipole antenna in an orthogonal (right angle) configuration. One element captures vertically polarized waves, and the other horizontally polarized waves.

Unlike traditional “paddle” or “shark fin” antennas, the Diversity Fin allows receivers to see a constant signal regardless of microphone orientation, allowing the user to hold a wireless microphone in any position relative to the antenna without signal loss – typical of live performance movement when using wireless transmitters.

The Diversity Fin antennas interface with DISTRO4 and DISTRO9 distribution amplifiers, which feed RF to multiple wireless microphone receivers of any brand. The DISTRO4 has dual inputs that combine the two outputs of the Diversity Fin Antenna for distribution of up to five wireless microphone receivers, along with regulated 12-volt DC power. Six DISTRO4 units can be connected together to feed up to 25 receiver channels.

The DISTRO9 offers dual zone inputs for reception from dual Diversity Fin antennas, and its nine outputs can be used to directly feed wireless receivers or to feed the inputs of additional DISTRO9 units to in turn feed up to 81 receiver inputs.

Further, to help ensure consistent signal with in-ear monitors, COMBINE4 and COMBINE8* IEM combiners combine the outputs of four or eight wireless monitor system transmitters into a single output to feed a CP Beam circularly polarized helical antenna.

*Combine8 only available for 470mhz-608mhz systems.

No wireless audio dropout with RF Venue

“RF Venue allows us to use any brand of wireless microphone and IEM system we want, all with solid reliability.”

The Impact

“I nicknamed RF Venue, ‘The Glue.’ They are the glue for my wireless. Antenna choice, placement, and management are the most important aspects of wireless, and RF Venue has made those aspects easy to take care of. They are that last part of the puzzle that you need to have to make sure it’s all together.” Concludes Mulcahy.

“And when my volunteers have success, it motivates them to do more – they want to be involved more when they’re successful. We’ve all but eliminated wireless problems with this solutionand never a single drop out. RF antennas aren’t the glamorous part of audio, but without them there’s no show. With RF Venue, there’s never a dropout.”

JBL Professional recently announced that ten Control Series ceiling loudspeakers have been authorised for use in EASE® Address, a free publicly available electro-acoustic simulation software that is utilised for designing distributed ceiling loudspeaker systems.

Provided by AFMG, EASE Address includes ceiling loudspeaker models from various manufacturers, allowing designers to select the loudspeaker they need for their project, determine quantities, tap settings, placement and document how the system is expected to perform.

The ten JBL Professional models are: Control 12C/T, Control 14C/T, Control 16C/T, Control 18C/T, Control 24CT, Control 26CT, Control 45CT, Control 47C/T, Control 47HC, and Control 226C/T.

A full copy of EASE Address and the individual JBL files are available on each applicable JBL Professional product webpage under the Downloads menu in the section named “Ease Data”.

“EASE Address and JBL’s Distributed System Design (DSD) software are similar in many ways and some system designers prefer to use independent modelling software rather than a program that comes from a manufacturer.

Address can provide some additional graphs (such as statistical distribution of SPL), while DSD includes all of JBL’s ceiling loudspeakers plus some other form-factor models that can be used in ceiling-type distributed sound systems, such as pendants and symmetrical-coverage surface-mount loudspeakers.

This wide-ranging assortment allows system designers to select the JBL ceiling loudspeaker that provides the size, output level, and degree of pattern control that best meet the needs of the project.” said Rick Kamlet, JBL’s Senior Product Manager for Commercial Installation Loudspeakers.

JPRO is pleased to announce an online Wireless Microphone Radio Frequency (RF) Workshop.

The RF Workshop is suited to anyone that has worked with, specified or installed wireless microphones and in-ear monitor systems (IEM’s).

“With restrictions on events being reduced leading up to Christmas and as we enter the holiday season, we thought it would be an appropriate refresher course for experienced operators and helpful to those who have not yet attended an RF Workshop,” says Tim Robertson from JPRO.

The online event is scheduled for 21 December and will be held in two sessions. The intermediate workshop at 10:30am is targeted towards integrators, houses of worship and schools. The advanced workshop at 2pm is for audio techs, hire companies and users who have experience in RF coordination for events. Each session will last approximately one hour.

Topics include the importance of RF coordination, antenna distribution, wireless spectrum allocation in New Zealand, RF use from a legislative perspective as well as future spectrum allocation in NZ.

The RF Workshop will be presented by Lisa Fahrenberger who has extensive experience as an audio tech, specialising in RF coordination. Lisa has a long and proud history with Oceania Audio and is mentored by Steve Caldwell who has managed RF for most Olympic Games ceremonies since 2000. Lisa’s RF project highlights include coordinating, monitoring and managing RF for major music and sport events such as the Cricket World Cup Opening Ceremony 2015, Lions Rugby Tour 2017, WOMAD and several All Blacks Test matches.

Registration is essential. Please register by using the buttons below or on our Events page here.

RF Venue Management

In accordance with government regulations and guidelines, JPRO and AMG have completed a Health and Safety covid risk assessment.

Having undertaken the risk assessment of our activities, JPRO and AMG Management teams have concluded that with effect from 3 December 2021, all clients, guests and staff over the age of 12 will be required to present proof of vaccination via a COVID-19 Vaccine Pass. This will be scanned upon entry, along with observing all Covid-19 protocols and restrictions.

This decision has not been made lightly; however we believe it is in the best interests for the health and safety of our staff, the requirement to maintain our educational facility and to minimise the risk of having to close our facility at 6A Doncaster Street – which also includes AMG Logistics who are our 3rd party warehousing and logistics company.

As a valued customer, we have in place alternative options to access our services:

  • Contactless pick up and drop off:  Should you wish to pick up or drop off stock or repairs, please head down to our contactless pick up and drop off area at the warehouse. We will be able to attend to you there.
  • Online Training:  If you want to attend training, you are encouraged to seek our online alternatives.
  • Product Demo:  If you would like a demonstration of a product, JPRO staff can offer a demonstration at your venue – as we have done for many years – using appropriate health and safety precautions. Please call our team to make an appointment (09) 275 8710.

Despite the challenges that we are faced with at this time, we are committed to providing you with our best possible service and solution for your project requirement. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to share your concerns.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are all in this journey together, knowing that it will get better – here’s to a mutually beneficial partnership.
