CASE STUDY: CORPORATE AUDIO SYSTEM

New Zealand Media and Entertainment’s (NZME) new award winning NZME Central building has recently had a high end Harman audio system installed. NZME decided to amalgamate their well-known brands APN NZ, The Radio Network (TRN) and GrabOne together under one roof and wanted their iHeart lounge to be a venue worthy of their celebrity guests and valued customers.

Richard Wahl from Provision spent many hours with NZME discovering how they wanted the space and the AV system to work. Richard comments “NZME wanted to create a real showpiece in their new world-class Technology Hub. They specifically wanted a professional, production-level sound system to be able to use the iHeart lounge for a wide range of up-scale events from international artists providing impromptu concerts to cocktail parties to presentations.” They also required audio for their corporate boardroom. Richard contacted Jpro for design support for the audio system to make sure it could handle the diverse range of areas and operational modes for the building.

The iHeart lounge with capacity to accommodate up to 350 people consists of three areas separated by operable doors - a lounge, meeting/training room and reception/foyer area – these areas can be closed off separately or used as one large venue. To handle this a BSS Soundweb BLU-100 12x8 audio processor and 2 x BLU-BOB2 break out boxes were deployed. The BLU-100 processor was programmed so the three zones in the lounge could be used in any configuration and also so the lounge could operate in three modes – background music, presentation and concert modes – depending on what was required on the day.

To provide production level sound JBL AE Expansion Series were chosen for the iHeart Lounge. 2 x AC299 12” 2-way full range loudspeakers, 4 x AC895 8” 2-way full range loudspeakers and and 2 x AC118S high-output 18” subwoofers offering excellent coverage in a difficult space due to the irregular shape of the venue. 4 x JBL Control25AV 5.25” loudspeakers were used for the northern end meeting/training room. Powering these loudspeakers was 2 x Crown XTI1002 and 2 x XTi4002 amplifiers offering plenty of headroom. The foyer/reception area was covered using 12 x JBL 8128 8” 100V in-ceiling speakers and 1 x JBL CSA180Z 80W dual impedance amplifier. When the full venue is being used the three areas are time aligned for maximum intelligibility.

For the Boardroom the BSS BLU-100 accepted inputs from the AMX DGX video switcher, Soundcloud BGM system and their existing Tandberg Videoconferencing system. 6 x JBL Control16C/T dual impedance in-ceiling speakers were installed in this space powered by 1 x Crown CT475 four channel amplifier.

NZME staff can easily control the audio in the venue from the different audio modes to venue configurations using their iPad via an AMX control system.

From live music to background music to corporate boardroom AV this installation had it all and the Harman audio solution installed handled it with ease.
