The Australian High Commission in Wellington have recently installed, a high quality Harman Professional audio solution. Jonathan Pawley, AV & IT Manager for the Australian High Commission called upon Matt Chapman, managing director of Audio Workshop to provide firstly a full system analysis and report on their current system, followed by a recommendation report to fix/resolve the poorly performing system.
The Australian High Commission host events and meetings throughout the year and has 4 dedicated spaces they use individually or in a number of configurations including all four spaces combined for their larger events. Three of the key considerations with the redesign of the system was good sound quality / speech intelligibility (acoustically challenging spaces), system versatility based on the differing demands and a user friendly interface that could be used in any of the four spaces.
The audio system is controlled by a BSS Soundweb BLU-100 audio processor and control is with either the BSS Contrio EC-8BV wall controller or an IPad which has been programmed to offer the staff greater control over the system with pre-set recall functionality included. The system has been programmed so all zones can be standalone or when the zones are combined they are time aligned which has greatly improved the intelligibility. A closed wireless network with distributed access points dedicated to the iPad control, was installed to maximise reliability and performance.
The main atrium area is an extremely reverberant space, due to high ceilings and hard surface areas so Matt specified the JBL CBT-70J line array column speaker. The CBT’s are the “swiss army knife” for difficult spaces as they offer very consistent pattern control on and off-axis and excellent gain-before-feedback all of which maximises speech intelligibly.
The meeting space which can open out and looks back towards the atrium has JBL Control 16CT in-ceiling install loudspeakers. These speakers play audio from iPod/CD/Mic playback sources. When video playback is required the system automatically switches to the JBL Control29AV speakers. The other Zones feature the JBL’s Control 16CT in ceiling speakers, offering great coverage and sound quality.
The venue required wireless microphones to cover all areas, so a multi-channel AKG WMS470 wireless microphone system with distributed antenna was specified. This solved the problem of drop outs in some parts of the venue.
Jonathan Pawley comments “We are really happy with the system installed, it has exceeded our expectations”. Matt Chapman adds “ We have been able to work along side the client to understand their needs and functionality and provide them with a robust system that ticks all the boxes and will serve their needs for many years to come. I am really happy with how this system is performing.”
System was designed, supplied, installed and programmed by Audio Workshop
